 Have Fun With Origami: Origami Folding Instructions!

Simple Origami Instructions

1. Boat - the origami boat is one of the easiest origami to make and most fun to play with. It actually floats and could be waterproofed to last a bit longer.
i. Start with a rectangular-shaped piece of paper
ii. Fold it in half to make a smaller rectangle then fold it partially again to make a crease at the top - to help line up corners.
iii. Fold down the corners to form a triangle.
iv. Fold upwards the edge of the paper. Open it up into a hat using your fingers.
v. Squash the hat to form a square by bringing the corners of the hat's brim together.
vi. Fold upwards one lower corner of the square. Flip and do the same for the opposite corner to form a triangle.
vii. Bring the corners of the folded triangle together to open it up and squash it into a square again
viii. Finally, unfold your boat by pulling the outer corners of the square.

2. Origami Animals
Another way of having fun with origami is by making origami animals. There are tons of origami animals to choose from. But presented is the most famous, the origami crane.
Origami Crane Folding Instructions
i. Begin with a square origami paper (preferably 6 inch or 15cm) and fold it to form an origami bird base.
ii. Fold to the middle on both sides then flip the paper and fold to the middle again.
iii. Make an inside reverse fold to create the tail of the crane. Do the same to the other side to create the neck. Make another inside reverse fold at the tip of the neck to make a head.
iv. Gently pull the wings apart and flatten the middle part of the crane and now you have an origami crane.

Modular origami is a more advanced type of origami. It involves folding two or more origami paper to form units that could be assembled without using any material such as thread or glue.

1. Origami Star Folding Instructions
i. Begin with 2 pieces of origami paper folded to form long rectangles.
ii. Form a crease in the middle by folding along the horizontal axis.
iii. Fold the top and bottom of the paper diagonally to form a triangle.
iv. Now make four diagonal folds to form two triangles. Do the same with the other unit.
v. Flip and unfold one unit. Put on top the other unit and begin to assemble by inserting the top and bottom part of the unit into the other unit. Do the same with the other side. And you now have your Ninja star or Shuriken.
